Printing with ICS: Windows Vista Setup

iPrint is not currently available for Windows Vista. However, ICS Printing supports Internet Printing Protocol, which is built into Windows Vista.

To begin, navigate to Start Menu > Settings > Printers > Add Printer.

Click "Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer":

Click "The printer that I want isn't listed":

The next dialog will look like this:

Click "Select a shared printer by name", and then enter the name of the printer you want to add. All ICS printer names begin with http://printing2.ics.uiuc.edu/ipp/, and end with a name specific to each printer. For example, to print to the Allen Hall Black & White printer, you would enter the full name:

When you have entered the complete printer name, click "Next".

In the "Add Printer Wizard", for the Manufacturer choose "HP". For the Printer it will depend on which type you are adding:

Then click "OK":

Click "Next"

Vista should say that the installation was successful. Click "Finish" to exit the installer. If there was a problem, please send an email to printing@ics.uiuc.edu.

You can now print to the installed ICS printer from your personal computer.
